Trip to Mushroom Land 10

The festival is over, time for us to hit the road again.
From the depth, through the giant cave system we climb the Pleurotus Cyclopeus to the stratum of Crepidotus Matodons.
Luckily, there’s less mucus at this season, making our ascension easier.

Le festival est terminé, il est temps pour nous de reprendre notre route.
Depuis les profondeurs, nous grimpons à travers le réseau des caves géantes les Pleurotes Cyclopéennes vers la strate des Mastodontes Crépidotes.
Heureusement, le mucus est faible à cette période, rendant notre ascension plus aisée.

Trip to Mushroom Land 09

Those living in the darkness below have since long forgotten the surface.
And yet, sometimes, at the end of their lives, some wish to return to the daylight, to feel one last time the warm embrace of the sun.
Undertaking this last journey is not a final sentence, just a whim.
Their body will be destroyed, calcined and scorched by the sun rays,
but the mycelium lives on.

Ceux qui vivent dans les ténèbres d’en dessous ont oublié depuis longtemps la surface.
Et pourtant, parfois, à la fin de leur existence, certains souhaitent retourner vers la lumière du jour, et sentir une dernière fois l’étreinte chaleureuse du soleil.
Entreprendre ce dernier voyage n’est pas une sentence finale, mais un caprice.
Leur corps sera détruit, calciné et brûlé par les rayons de l’astre,
mais le mycélium survit.

The secret of life is water.
Not too much, not too little. Just the right amount to carry the nutrient, to dissolve the rock to dust, the dust to mud, the mud to clay.
Water is not necessary to life, it is life.

Le secret de la vie, c’est l’eau.
Ni trop ni trop peu. Juste la bonne quantité pour transporter les nutriments, pour dissoudre la roche en poussière, la poussière en boue et la boue en argile.
L’eau n’est pas nécessaire à la vie, elle est la vie

Trip to Mushroom Land 07

It’s now time for the festival, let’s bring the lights!
The precious amadou is burning bright in the lanterns we carry all together, casting our shadows high on the caverns walls.
At our feet, the newborn caps looks like eggs yolks, growing and growling in a strange concerto.
It is not a sacred light, nor a magic incense. It is we who made the magic and the sacred of this moment.

C’est le moment du festival, amenons les lumières !
L’amadou précieux brille si fort en brûlant dans les lanternes que nous portons, projetant nos ombres sur les murs des cavernes.
A nos pieds, sortent de terre à vue d’oeil les têtes des futurs champignons, tels des jaunes d’oeufs craquelant de concert.
Les lumières que nous portons n’ont rien de sacré, l’amadou n’a rien de magique. C’est nous qui par les circonstances rendons cet instant sacré et magique.

Trip to Mushroom Land 06

There’s much to learn before the festival, as fungus cycles are mysterious to the non initiated.
What we see and touch, what we call “mushrooms”, is only a manifestation of the invisible mycelium, which very nature is another mystery, even to the initiated.
Plant? Animal? Lichen? Algae? All of them? Who knows…

Il y a beaucoup à apprendre avant le festival, car le cycle fongique est un vrai mystère pour les non-initiés.
Ce que l’on peut voire et toucher, ce que l’on appelle “champignons”, n’est qu’une manifestation de l’invisible mycélium, dont la nature exact reste un autre grand mystère, même pour les initiés.
Plante ? Animal ? Lichen ? Algue ? Tout à la fois ? Qui sait…
